WORK OF THE WEEK
SPRITES is engaging and mysterious. With the distinct rhythmic cuts in Sprites, Emilie magically maintains the rawness of these trunks, while also providing an organizational geometry that allows the visitor to recognize proportion and scale of the Box Elder tree. The scoring of the trunks is one of Emilie’s methods to reveal the history and life of the trunk.
Emilie’s intent and mission was always to understand these trees, relate to them, and become the caretakers of nature. Emilie’s work has served as inspiration to so many. Her sculpture is the nascent work of sustainability and conservation. Emilie’s work beautifully reminds us of our responsibility for the stewardship of nature. Emilie’s work is also a quiet and overt reminder of climate change.
Each piece of SPRITES is over seven feet in height. The approximate footprints are between 29 and 39 inches in diameter. SPRITES was originally carved in Box Elder and is available in Bronze.
